Scorcher in the Sahara

12 NOV 2009 - FURTHER UPDATE
============================
Well, we both survived the Sahara Scorcher and are now revelling in the accomplishment as well as nursing a few blisters!  And as impressive as that may be, we're even more impressed with the fundraising total, and want to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone for all your extremely generous donations!

We're going to leave the fundraising site open until December 1 in the hope we'll reach $30,000?!  Despite the web site currently showing the total as $21,335, some cheques and money from the fundraising night bring the Grand Total to $23,796 - an amazing effort!!!

And finally, announcing the winner of the Merida mountain bike - I can assure you there was no inside information handed out here, as Lani Hay (Pete's fiancée) scooped up the big prize!! Lani guessed a time of 14hrs 20mins as an average for the big day, which was nearly spot on (Pete’s time was 13:50 and Mick’s time was 15:02), so many congratulations to Lani!

22 OCT 2009 - UPDATE
===================
Pete & Mick arrived in Cairo yesterday, ready and motivated for the challenge ahead...plus we arrived to the good news that our "esteemed coach" Tim A'Hern has donated a new Merida mountain bike to the cause!  So, what we would like to do is offer everyone the opportunity to win this Merida MTB valued at A$600...and all you have to do is donate a minimum of $10 through this web site, and in the comments field, estimate how long it will take us to complete the "Sahara Long Day" - that's Day 5 of the ordeal where 90km is the task ahead!  Entries close when the start gun goes off on Day 5, and obviously the person who estimates the closest time to the average of our actual times wins the Merida MTB...

Good luck everyone!  And once again, thanks a million to everyone for your extremely generous donations and for helping us reach this impressive fundraising total!!!

22 AUG 2009 - UPDATE
===================
On 25 October 2009 Pete Wilson and Mick Campbell will embark on the challenge to complete a 250km run in 6 days across the Sahara Desert. They will be scaling the endless sand-dunes of the Sahara in searing temperatures of up to 52c whilst carrying their provisions for the 6 days – mad men!

The Sahara Race is part of a unique worldwide endurance series which consists of the four Deserts.  Pete has already succeeded in the amazing feat of completing the Antarctica, Gobi and Atacama Deserts; making the Sahara Race the last in the series for him. This is the first in the series for Mick and there is no doubt it will be a baptism of fire! Find out more about the challenge at www.4deserts.com/sahararace

There is some method to their madness! Pete and Mick aim to raise a substantial sum for the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation.  The Foundation is the principal fundraising body for the Sydney Children's Hospital which provides care and treatment to sick children from NSW and beyond. To find out more about this worthwhile cause please visit their website at www.schf.org.au

We ask you to please give generously; you would be hard pushed to find a better cause, a bigger challenge or two crazier (and soon to be blistered) blokes!

We sincerely appreciate your generosity and support, cheers, Pete & Mick
    Sydney Childrens Hospital Foundation

Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation is the principal fundraising body for the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, dedicated to working with the community to improve the quality of life for this and future generations of seriously ill children.
